h i s t o r y for December, 2008...
Hmm… Yum
I’m not in the right mood of writing proper blog entries lately, thus I find myself ranting about petty stuff and earning some quick bucks more often on my other blog.
Meanwhile, here’s what I had for supper last night…

Baked baby portobello mushrooms with cheese! Thanks to Aunt Lilian’s recipe, I got to taste such a fabulous dish! And of course, not forgetting my mum who so deserved the credits.

Oh ya, I finally made it to the Dean’s List with a CGPA of 3.50 (out of 4.00)! Felt a lil’ lucky since I managed to land myself on the minimum requirement for the coveted list. And I got an A for my español! Boy, this really boosts my confidence in advancing to the next level. :)
And speaking of school, it’s reopening on Monday and I’m becoming quite emo because of this. If only I could stop the time from ticking away so fast…
I don’t wanna go back and I haven’t gone to bed, yet…

Revivin’ da chupa-chups
What’s up with THHC™ lately? No news and updates from the franchisees. I hope it’s not dead. Even the Chairman himself has gone missin’. That’s quite serious. Hmm…
The last time I tallied the points was in… Lemme see… JUNE! Oh boy, that was half a year ago! So here I am to resurrect it by giving it a much-needed pamper and vigour.

Seems like we have a pair of winners here, Jemima & day-dreamer, the ultimate stalkers chuppers. :P A big congrats to those of you who made it to the charts! And thank you guys for dropping by to leave a comment or two as well as being my loyal readers. They mean so much to me. :)
For the uninitiated, you can read more about the buzz here.

A fortnight ago, a friend and I went to dine at Paddington House of Pancakes to celebrate the end of our finals. I had my Russian buckwheat blini with hash browns and eggplants while my friend ordered her Tokyo (what a weird name for a pancake dish) which came with spring rolls, mashed potato, and meat. Hers was a bigger portion than mine and being a big eater, I was not full at all. Man… I should’ve ordered New York!

After watching the heart-warming The Kite Runner, I was so determined to get the novel. As always, I’ve yet to read it like the other dozen I’ve kept on my bookshelf to collect dust. The cyberspace is such a huge distraction that it robs me of my precious time for reading. Guess I’d have to wait for some other day…
Meanwhile, I’m gonna share with you an English translation of the beautiful 17th-century Persian poem entitled Kabul, the Afghan capital where much of the story is set in.
Ah! How beautiful is Kabul encircled by her arid mountains
And Rose, of the trails of thorns she envies
Her gusts of powdered soil, slightly sting my eyes
But I love her, for knowing and loving are born of this same dust
My song exhalts her dazzling tulips
And at the beauty of her trees, I blush
How sparkling the water flows from Pul-I-Bastaan!
May Allah protect such beauty from the evil eye of man!
Khizr chose the path to Kabul in order to reach Paradise
For her mountains brought him close to the delights of heaven
From the fort with sprawling walls, A Dragon of protection
Each stone is there more precious than the treasure of Shayagan
Every street of Kabul is enthralling to the eye
Through the bazaars, caravans of Egypt pass
One could not count the moons that shimmer on her roofs
And the thousand splendid suns that hide behind her walls
Her laughter of mornings has the gaiety of flowers
Her nights of darkness, the reflections of lustrous hair
Her melodious nightingales, with passion sing their songs
Ardent tunes, as leaves enflamed, cascading from their throats
And I, I sing in the gardens of Jahanara, of Sharbara
And even the trumpets of heaven envy their green pastures
