Revivin’ da chupa-chups

What’s up with THHC™ lately? No news and updates from the franchisees. I hope it’s not dead. Even the Chairman himself has gone missin’. That’s quite serious. Hmm…

The last time I tallied the points was in… Lemme see… JUNE! Oh boy, that was half a year ago! So here I am to resurrect it by giving it a much-needed pamper and vigour.

T H E H U G H U G C L U B™

Seems like we have a pair of winners here, Jemima & day-dreamer, the ultimate stalkers chuppers. :P A big congrats to those of you who made it to the charts! And thank you guys for dropping by to leave a comment or two as well as being my loyal readers. They mean so much to me. :)

For the uninitiated, you can read more about the buzz here.

A fortnight ago, a friend and I went to dine at Paddington House of Pancakes to celebrate the end of our finals. I had my Russian buckwheat blini with hash browns and eggplants while my friend ordered her Tokyo (what a weird name for a pancake dish) which came with spring rolls, mashed potato, and meat. Hers was a bigger portion than mine and being a big eater, I was not full at all. Man… I should’ve ordered New York!

Pancakes dinner at Paddington House of Pancakes; The Kite Runner

After watching the heart-warming The Kite Runner, I was so determined to get the novel. As always, I’ve yet to read it like the other dozen I’ve kept on my bookshelf to collect dust. The cyberspace is such a huge distraction that it robs me of my precious time for reading. Guess I’d have to wait for some other day…

Meanwhile, I’m gonna share with you an English translation of the beautiful 17th-century Persian poem entitled Kabul, the Afghan capital where much of the story is set in.

Ah! How beautiful is Kabul encircled by her arid mountains
And Rose, of the trails of thorns she envies
Her gusts of powdered soil, slightly sting my eyes
But I love her, for knowing and loving are born of this same dust

My song exhalts her dazzling tulips
And at the beauty of her trees, I blush
How sparkling the water flows from Pul-I-Bastaan!
May Allah protect such beauty from the evil eye of man!

Khizr chose the path to Kabul in order to reach Paradise
For her mountains brought him close to the delights of heaven
From the fort with sprawling walls, A Dragon of protection
Each stone is there more precious than the treasure of Shayagan

Every street of Kabul is enthralling to the eye
Through the bazaars, caravans of Egypt pass
One could not count the moons that shimmer on her roofs
And the thousand splendid suns that hide behind her walls

Her laughter of mornings has the gaiety of flowers
Her nights of darkness, the reflections of lustrous hair
Her melodious nightingales, with passion sing their songs
Ardent tunes, as leaves enflamed, cascading from their throats

And I, I sing in the gardens of Jahanara, of Sharbara
And even the trumpets of heaven envy their green pastures

read these too...

Ah… I was hunting for that book too. But the cover of the one available at Borders did not attract me, since it was not the same book by the original publisher. And yes, I’m that particular when it comes to books.

Passed by the Paddington House of Pancakes (on the way back from sending someone to airport lah) but never step inside for a meal yet. The serving looks small, no wonder u still feel hungry after eating it :)

  19. kyh | December 7th, 2008 | 16:21

    claudie: Hopefully so! :)

Chen: It was a lot smaller than the crêpe I had last time.

  20. Khengsiong | December 8th, 2008 | 10:29

I haven’t got the patience for novel. The last one I read was “The Da Vinci Code”. Just 2 days ago I went to the bookstore, wanted to buy “Angels and Demons”, but ended up with a photography book.

I can’t tell you that since I haven’t read the book. As far as I know, the movie script stays true to the storyline of the novel. :)
